NAACP GEORGIA PRESIDENT GERALD GRIGGS LEADS EFFORT TO MOBILIZE YOUNG BLACK VOTERS IN GEORGIA

-FORT VALLEY, GA- The Georgia NAACP, led by civil rights Attorney Gerald Griggs, partnered with Black Voters Matter, Rep Georgia, Georgia Stand Up, ACLU of Georgia, Ben & Jerry's, and BET in launching a state-wide Youth Voter Mobilization Tour. On Friday, September 15, 2022, the tour kicked off on the campus of Albany State University. The tour pulled into Albany on the campus of Albany State University with Albany State NAACP & several other voting rights groups to lead a voter registration effort. Ahead of the midterm election, the voting & civic engagement groups led by the Georgia NAACP canvassed, organized, and mobilized to enage with voters between the ages of 18 to 25 in Georgia. The tour, whict started at Albany State University, continued to Fort Valley and Savannah State with more stops planned. Those planned stops included Americus, Barnesville, Griffin, Savannah, and Clark Atlanta University Center.

Georgia State Director of Civic Engagement Amari Fennoy was the lead organizer of the tour on behald of the Georgia NAACP. She stated that she hopes the tour will be an opportunity to speak with voters about the issues and get them engaged ahead of the November 8th election.

NAACP Georgia State President Gerald Griggs states, "It's time to speak directly with the voters, especially the young voters about the importance of voting in this election. Justice, Equity, Education, Police Accountability, Jobs, Healthcare, and Economic Empowerment are on the ballot."

The Partners hope to jumpstart voter registration and mobilization akin to the push before the 2020 and 2021 historic elections in Georgia.
