On May 1, 2025, International Workers Day, Georgia NAACP President Gerald Griggs stood shoulder to shoulder with workers, community leaders, and activists in the heart of Atlanta to honor the historic struggle for labor rights and economic justice. Griggs joined a powerful coalition of voices at the May Day protest and march, underscoring the NAACP’s steadfast commitment to uplifting working families and fighting for fair and equitable workplaces.
With chants echoing through the streets and banners raised high, the march highlighted critical issues facing Georgia’s workforce—including fair wages, safe working conditions, and the right to organize. Griggs, known for his frontline advocacy, reminded the crowd that economic justice is a cornerstone of civil rights.
“International Workers Day is a reminder that the fight for civil rights and the fight for workers’ rights are one and the same,” Griggs said. “We stand united with every worker demanding dignity, respect, and fair treatment on the job. Today we march, but every day we work toward justice.”
The Georgia NAACP’s participation in this year’s May Day action aligns with its long history of supporting labor movements and addressing racial and economic disparities that continue to impact Black and Brown communities disproportionately.
As the march wound its way through Atlanta, the energy was unmistakable—a reflection of deep-rooted solidarity and a shared vision for a more just and equitable future. Griggs’s presence amplified the call for systemic change and reminded all in attendance that the NAACP remains at the forefront of the fight for justice, on the streets and in the halls of power.
