This week, I had the opportunity to join community members, advocates, faith leaders, and local residents in Columbus, Georgia, for an important listening tour focused on hearing directly from the people who call this community home.
The conversation covered many of the challenges Georgians are facing every day, including access to affordable housing, economic opportunity, education, voting access, and public safety. Rather than arriving with predetermined answers, the purpose of the tour was to listen—to understand the concerns, priorities, and experiences of those most affected by public policy.
One message was consistent throughout the discussion: people want to be heard. Residents spoke candidly about the issues impacting their families and neighborhoods while also sharing ideas for strengthening their communities. These conversations remind us that meaningful change begins by listening to those with lived experience.
