Attorney Gerald Griggs Meets with Former Vice President Kamala Harris at NAACP Town Hall in Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA — Civil rights attorney and former Georgia NAACP President Gerald A. Griggs joined former Vice President Kamala Harris and community leaders at the NAACP Town Hall held at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. The gathering provided an important opportunity to discuss civil rights, civic engagement, voting rights, and the continued fight for justice and equality in America.

For Attorney Griggs, the opportunity to meet with Harris represented another meaningful moment in his ongoing commitment to protecting constitutional rights and advocating for communities throughout Georgia.

"Meeting with former Vice President Kamala Harris during the NAACP Town Hall was an important reminder that the fight for justice requires all of us to remain engaged. Our communities deserve to be heard, our constitutional rights must be protected, and we must continue the work of those who came before us," said Griggs.

A Conversation About Civil Rights, Democracy, and the Future

The NAACP Town Hall at Elizabeth Baptist Church brought attention to the importance of community participation in addressing the challenges facing Georgia and the nation. With the November 3, 2026, general election approaching, conversations surrounding voting rights, democracy, economic opportunity, and equal protection under the law remain especially relevant.

As a longtime civil rights advocate, criminal defense attorney, and former President of both the Georgia NAACP and Atlanta NAACP, Griggs has consistently emphasized the importance of protecting the right to vote, holding public institutions accountable, and ensuring that every community has a voice in decisions affecting its future.

The gathering also highlighted the historic role of Black churches in advancing the civil rights movement. From the struggle against segregation to the continuing fight for equal access to the ballot box, faith institutions have served as important centers for community organizing, civic education, and social change.

Continuing the Fight for Justice in Georgia

Throughout his legal career and civil rights leadership, Attorney Gerald Griggs has worked to address issues involving police accountability, criminal justice reform, voter protection, constitutional rights, and equal justice under the law.

His participation in the NAACP Town Hall reflects his continuing commitment to connecting grassroots advocacy with national conversations about justice and democracy.

"Georgia has always played a significant role in the struggle for civil rights. From the Civil Rights Movement to the challenges we face today, our responsibility is to protect the progress that has been made while continuing to push for a more just and equitable society," Griggs added.

For Griggs, civic engagement does not begin or end with an election. It requires consistent participation, community education, accountability, and a willingness to stand up when fundamental rights are threatened.

The Work of Justice Continues

“The meeting with former Vice President Kamala Harris serves as another reminder of the importance of bringing together national leaders, local advocates, faith communities, and everyday citizens to address issues affecting the future of Georgia.

As the state approaches another important election, Attorney Griggs continues to encourage Georgians to remain informed, participate in the democratic process, and defend the constitutional protections that belong to every American.

"The fight for justice continues. The fight for voting rights continues. And the work of protecting our democracy belongs to all of us. Justice does not sleep."
