Georgia Supreme Court Strikes Down State Election Board Rules — A Victory for Voting Rights and the Rule of Law

Today, the Georgia Supreme Court delivered a significant ruling that underscores the importance of constitutional governance and the protection of voting rights. In a decision that reaffirms the limits of administrative authority, the Court struck down rules issued by the Georgia State Election Board, finding them to be in violation of state law and beyond the Board’s legal authority.

The Georgia NAACP applauds this decision as a critical step toward restoring transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in our state’s electoral process. For too long, the Georgia State Election Board has operated in ways that have raised serious concerns about overreach and the erosion of voting access—especially in communities of color.

The Court’s decision confirms what we have long known: that election rules must be developed through lawful channels, with full public input, and in line with the rights guaranteed under our Constitution and voting laws. This ruling sends a clear message that no unelected body has the power to undermine the democratic process.

We remain steadfast in our mission to protect and expand access to the ballot box for every eligible Georgian. This ruling reaffirms that the fight for fair, free, and transparent elections must be waged not only at the ballot box but also in the courts, in our communities, and through steadfast civic engagement.

The Georgia NAACP calls on state lawmakers and election officials to respect this ruling, engage with community stakeholders, and recommit to policies that ensure fair access to the franchise for all Georgians. Our democracy depends on it.
