NAACP joins Gregory Paige’s family in request for transparency from law enforcement

(ST. MARYS, GA) More than a month has passed since 27-year-old Jacksonville resident Gregory Paige was fatally shot by St. Marys police inside the Cumberland Oaks apartment complex. Yet, his grieving family continues to wait for answers.

On Sunday, the family joined with the NAACP Camden County Branch and community members outside the Camden County Courthouse to demand accountability. At the center of their call: the immediate release of body camera footagefrom the incident.

“The community deserves transparency, and this family deserves the truth,” said Georgia NAACP President Gerald Griggs, who spoke at the rally. “Justice delayed is justice denied. We will not stop until accountability is delivered.”

According to police, officers were responding to reports that Paige had been threatening someone before the encounter that led to his death. However, with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) now handling the case, the family and advocates are frustrated by the silence surrounding the footage.

The District Attorney’s Office has not committed to releasing the video, leaving the community uncertain about when—or if—it will ever be made public.

For Paige’s family, the demand is clear: transparency, justice, and change. Until then, the NAACP and community members say they will continue to raise their voices outside courthouses and in the streets, standing united in the fight for truth.
