NAACP set to meet about On-Going Conditions at the Macon-Bibb Detention Center

Macon, GA — In response to mounting concerns over the conditions inside the Macon-Bibb Detention Center, the NAACP will meet with county officials this week to demand accountability and immediate action. The meeting was called by Gwen Westbrooks, President of the Macon-Bibb Branch of the NAACP, following numerous reports of overcrowding, lack of adequate medical care, and unsafe conditions for those incarcerated.

This local initiative is fully supported by the Georgia State Conference of the NAACP, which stands in solidarity with the Macon-Bibb community in the ongoing fight for justice and humane treatment within the criminal legal system.

“The conditions reported at the Macon-Bibb Detention Center are unacceptable and must be addressed without delay,” said Gerald Griggs, President of the Georgia NAACP. “This is not just a Macon-Bibb issue—it’s a moral issue that speaks to how we treat the most vulnerable in our custody. We are proud to stand with President Westbrooks and the local branch in demanding transparency, accountability, and urgent reform.”
